IMO E

Easiest way is directly try with the options and only E satisfies the equations

• The price of softcover book is $$\frac{2}{3}$$ of the price of hardcover book

To find:
• The book cost in hardcover

Approach and Working:
• Hardcover book cost = $12 + softcover book cost • Softcover book cost = $$(\frac{2}{3})$$ * hardcover book cost From the above two equations, we get, • (Hardcover book cost)/3 =$12

Therefore, hardcover book cost = $12 * 3 =$36

Hence, the correct answer is Option E
