Solution

Given:
    • A book costs $12 more in hardcover than in softcover
    • The price of softcover book is \(\frac{2}{3}\) of the price of hardcover book

To find:
    • The book cost in hardcover

Approach and Working:
    • Hardcover book cost = $12 + softcover book cost
    • Softcover book cost = \((\frac{2}{3})\) * hardcover book cost

From the above two equations, we get,
    • (Hardcover book cost)/3 = $12

Therefore, hardcover book cost = $12 * 3 = $36

Hence, the correct answer is Option E

Answer: E
