The function C(x) is a parabola. Since the coefficient of x^2 > 0, it is going to be an upward parabola. It is evident from the chart that as the value of x is increasing, the value of C(x) i.e. y is decreasing. Therefore, the average rate of decrease in cost for the interval x = 40 to x = 50 will be less than the other intervals.
