B.

we need to know 1 yard=3feet.

Hence area = 4*60/3 = 80 yard²

Cost = 80*10.5 = $840 Bunuel I have a query. Are we supposed to know the conversion factor for yard? IMO question stem must mention that. _________________ Help with kudos if u found the post useful. Cost per sq. yard siding = $10.50 3 ft = 1 yard 60 ft = 60/3 = 20 yard Area of wall = 20 x 4 = 80 sq. yard Cost of siding for the wall = 10.50 x 80 =$840

(A) $800 (B)$840

(C) $2520 (D)$3240

(E) $5040 i think answer is B as 1 yard= 3 feet so 60/3= 20 so area of wall is 20*4= 80 and cost per square yard is 10.50. so 10.50*20= 840 Intern Joined: 31 Jan 2018 Posts: 16 Re: A certain type of siding for a house costs$10.50 per square yard. Wh  [#permalink]

Length of a wall= 60 feet= 20 yard

3 feet= 1 yard

60 feet= 1/3*60= 20 yard

Width of a wall= 4 yard
Area of a wall = 20*4= 80 yard

Cost of siding a wall= 80*10.50= 840

$$4*60*10.50$$

You are missing feet to yard conversion.

Bunuel I have a query. Are we supposed to know the conversion factor for yard? IMO question stem must mention that.

Hi Sasindran,

As the Cost is mentioned in per Square Yard, we need to convert feet in Yard so that the area will be in Square Yard. IMO, the question need not mention that, as its already understood.

Hi Bunuel,

In GC, do we have any thread containing all the conversions which might be helpful for GMAT?

But my query is different. I’m asking about the conversion factor. Yard is prevalent in US and not in the SI system of units. In SI system the equivalent unit can be considered as metre. So people from other countries may not know the conversion factor.

On the GMAT, the question itself will supply the relative conversions such as this one. Though you should have a few basic ones memorized: 1 hour = 60 minutes, ...

(A) $800 (B)$840

(C) $2520 (D)$3240

(E) $5040 Since 60 feet is 60/3 = 20 yards, the area of the wall is 4 x 20 = 80 yards^2. Thus, it will cost 80 x 10.5 = 840 dollars.
