Text-editing software company Founder Realized "demand for articles by internet sites that promote consumer products."
Solution adopted by the founder-> Development of a feature that could condense and summarize a lengthy article which will be less wordy and more practical for web pages.

Founder Solution first welcome but finally flopped, Why? "Weaken the argument"

A. The feature was an addition to an existing text-editing program, but one that the company demanded an extra payment for. ~ In the argument cost is not mentioned, It can be the reason, but it is not related to the information mentioned in the passage. Also, if this is the reason than the product would not intially be welcomed by the managers.

B Soon after the feature was released, competing software companies began to develop programs that could perform similar tasks ~ Although comparison is made between founder's company and other competing software companies, we are not presented the fact that whether the competing software companies are better than the founder's company.

C. People that search for specific information on internet pages always prefer the text to be presented in a form that is easy-to-read and well-organized. ~ This strengthen the argument, if people finds it easier to read the text generated from the software, than the founder's solution is apt for the internet sites.

D.Text-processing algorithms have a reputation of creating broken results fraught with grammatical errors, but in practice recent models were not shown to be any less effective than human content editors. ~ If the software is producing results similar to that of the human content editors, than it should not be flopped.

E. Conciseness is an important characteristic of text that appears on internet pages although marketing pieces rely heavily on descriptive and sometimes elaborate wording ~ Correct, refer to the argument we have to find the solution for the internet sites that promotes consumer product. If they want the product description to be elobarative, so there is no requirement of shortening and editing the text.

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

A demand for articles by internet sites that promote consumer products became apparent to the founder of a text-editing software company. The founder decided to supply a solution to the demand, and initiated the development of a feature that could condense and summarize a lengthy article, creating a version that was far less wordy, and more to the point, making it more practical for being published on internet web pages. Although at first welcomed by the managers of the sites, the feature proved to be disadvantageous.

Which of the following, if true, does the most to explain why the founder's solution was unsuccessful?

A The feature was an addition to an existing text-editing program, but one that the company demanded an extra payment for.

Incorrect.

This is a Paradox question, so it is made up of premises only; you need to find a new premise which best resolves the apparent discrepancy between the existing premises:

Premise A: sites promoting products needed articles
    +
Premise B: the founder of a software company developed a program that could summarize an article and make it more concise
    +
Premise C: at first, the program was welcomed by the managers of the sites

Premise D: the program proved to be useless

    Resolving Premise: ?

This answer choice states that the new feature had a price. Even if we assumed (although there is no reason to do so) that the program package was expensive, we would have no reason to believe that its cost made it disadvantageous, i.e., having a negative effect.

B Soon after the feature was released, competing software companies began to develop programs that could perform similar tasks

Incorrect.

This answer choice attempts to explain the paradox by showing that the feature had competition. However, premise D tells us site managers found the feature disadvantageous, that is, it harmed their business; the paradox is not about a failure to market the feature.

C People that search for specific information on internet pages always prefer the text to be presented in a form that is easy-to-read and well-organized.

Incorrect.

This answer choice emphasizes the paradox in the argument. If people prefer easily readable and organized text, then it only seems logical that they would appreciate text created by the feature. This, therefore, does not explain why the site managers found the feature useless.

D Text-processing algorithms have a reputation of creating broken results fraught with grammatical errors, but in practice recent models were not shown to be any less effective than human content editors.

Incorrect.

This answer choice emphasizes the paradox by revealing that the text processing feature must have been very effective. The fact that such features may have had a bad reputation is beside the point as we know the site managers used it before they gave their verdict.

E Conciseness is an important characteristic of text that appears on internet pages although marketing pieces rely heavily on descriptive and sometimes elaborate wording

This answer choice states that pieces of text focused on marketing often use elaborate wording. The first premise tells us that the sites in need of text promote products. In other words, these are marketing sites.

Since the feature cuts down the wordiness of an article, it may actually harm the marketing ability of such an article, therefore, making it undesirable to marketing site managers.
