A group of men decided to a do a work in 7 days. But 10 men dropped out every day, the work completed at the end of the 13th day. How many men were there at the beginning?
(a) 120 men

Let there be x men to start with, so number of man days=7*x
This should be equal or less than the second case = \(x+(x-10)+(x-20)+...+(x-120)=13x-(10+20+...120)=13x-10*(1+2+..12)=13x-10*\frac{12*13}{2}=13x-780\)
So, \(7x\leq13x-780........6x\geq780.......x\geq130\), so x=130
The greater and equal to sign is to cater for decimals. Had answer been 139.3, x would be 140

—> if 10 men dropped out every day, and it took 13 days to get it done:
—> 1st day: ‘x’ work done
—> 2nd day: ‘x—10’ work done
—> 3rd day: ‘x—20’ work done
....
—> 13th day: ‘x—120’ work done
Sum of the work done within 13 days is equal to 7x
(x+x—120)*13/2=7x (by using arithmetic progression formula)
—> (x—60)*13=7x
13x—13*60=7x
6x=13*60
x= 130
The answer is B
