A high-school music department is putting together a two-day music festival to highlight the students' talents. The schedule for the two days will adhere to the following rules:

1. Five musical performances are scheduled for each day.
2. The majority of the performances on one of the days will be composed of woodwind instruments (clarinets, flutes, saxophones, oboes, or bassoons)
3. The other day will primarily feature solo performances.

Currently, 8 of the performances (4 each day) have been scheduled. The music department must add one additional performance on each day:

Day 1
-Smooth Jazz Group (10th Grade, Saxophone Trio)
-Rock Your Socks Off (12th Grade, Vocal Group)
-Dustin & Karen (11th Grade, Flute Duo)
-James (11th Grade, Trumpet Solo)

Day 2
-Adam (10th Grade, Vocal Solo)
-John (11th Grade, Clarinet Solo)
-Rachel (12th Grade, Brass Solo)
-4 Blind Mice (9th Grade, Woodwind Quartet)

The music department must add one additional performance on each day.

Based on the rules above, identify a performance for (I) A performance that can be scheduled on either day and for (II) A performance that cannot be scheduled on either day, select one in each column.

Day 1 : Woodwind instruments (since 3 out of 4 are not solo performances); hence, additional performance should feature a Woodwind instrument
Day 2 : Primarily Solo performances; hence, additional performance should feature a Solo performance

(I) A performance that can be scheduled on either day

Susan (12th Grade, Flute Solo) -- can be scheduled on Either Day
Henry (12th Grade, Violin Solo) -- can NOT be scheduled on Day 1
Kimmy (10th Grade, Trumpet Solo) -- can NOT be scheduled on Day 1
James & Jimmy (10th Grade, Vocal Duo) -- can NOT be scheduled on Day 1 / Day 2
Susan & Tina (12th Grade, Flute and Clarinet Duo) -- can NOT be scheduled on Day 2
Jenny & Molly (12th Grade, Flute Duo) -- can NOT be scheduled on Day 2

Susan (12th Grade, Flute Solo) is the correct answer

(II) A performance that cannot be scheduled on either dayy

Susan (12th Grade, Flute Solo) -- can be scheduled on Day 1 as well as Day 2
Henry (12th Grade, Violin Solo) -- can be scheduled on Day 2
Kimmy (10th Grade, Trumpet Solo) -- can be scheduled on Day 2
James & Jimmy (10th Grade, Vocal Duo) -- can NOT be scheduled on Day 1 / Day 2
Susan & Tina (12th Grade, Flute and Clarinet Duo) -- can be scheduled on Day 1
Jenny & Molly (12th Grade, Flute Duo) -- can be scheduled on Day 1

James & Jimmy (10th Grade, Vocal Duo) is the correct answer

Day 2 : Primarily Solo performances; hence, additional performance should feature a Solo performance >> why the additional performance on day2 has to be solo? From my view, day2 has 3/5 solo performances already which can already be a SOLO MAJORITY. Therefore, no matter solo or non-solo performance is added to day2, day2 is still SOLO MAJORITY day.

Please help me clarify my thoughts 🥹🙏🏼

I have got the same doubt. Hey chetan2u Sajjad1994, can u explain why Set B can only take solos as the 5th element?

Primarily means mainly but we may not be able to specify whether 60% will not meet the criteria of primarily while 80% would.

So, archiving this question and would get the question in a better format.
