Stat 1: We don't have information about the no of ounces initially...Insufficient.

Stat 2: After the addition the capacity is 75% full...not sure how many ounces he added...Insufficient.

Both : let x be the capacity...when he added 24 ounces it became 3/4(x). Then initially let us assume there we A ounces then after adding 24 we get 3/4(x)

A + 24 = 3/4(X)...

we don't have A and X information..

IMO option E .

OA please...will correct if I missed anything..

Target question: How many ounces of water were in the canteen when she arrived at the ranger station?

Statement 1: The hiker added 24 ounces to the canteen at the ranger station.
This information doesn't help us determine the volume of water in the canteen when the hiker arrived.
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: After the hiker added water to the canteen, the canteen was 75 percent full

Statements 1 and 2 combined
There are several possible scenarios that satisfy BOTH statements. Here are two:
Case a: The hiker had 0 ounces of water when she arrived, and the canteen has a capacity of 32 ounces. So, after adding 24 ounces of water to the canteen, it now holds 24 ounces of water. 24/32 = 75%, so all of the conditions are satisfied in this scenario. In this case the hiker had 0 ounces of water when she arrived
Case b: The hiker had 6 ounces of water when she arrived, and the canteen has a capacity of 40 ounces. So, after adding 24 ounces of water to the canteen, it now holds 30 ounces of water. 30/40 = 75%, so all of the conditions are satisfied in this scenario. In this case the hiker had 6 ounces of water when she arrived
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, the combined statements are NOT SUFFICIENT

Answer: E

from 1) we just know how much was added

from 2) we dont know how much was added in x = 3/4 C

Combination
24 + x = 3/4C

2 unknowns, 1 equation

The answer is option E (none of the statement).

First of all, we do not know how much water was left in her canteen when she reached the station.

Now according to statement 1, she added 24 ounces of water. But we do not know how much (in terms of volume) was her canteen full. This is being told in statement 2 that she got her canteen full till 75 percent. But we are missing a vital piece of information here. What if, already her canteen was 50% filled when she got it refilled? And what if her canteen was completely empty when she reached the station? In both cases, the answer will be different hence both the statements are insufficient.
