Hi, although I think (A) and (C) are the only choices which sounds right to start with,
I want to know whether we can rule out (B), (D), (E) straight away from the choices, please.

You can rule out B and E straight away because both B and E introduces the passive voice.
The original sentence suggests an active voice that conveys clearly the intended meaning, so no need to switch to the passive voice if and if only all the other choices that contain an active voice are wrong.
In D you can stop reading after : "After being buried since approximately 1300 B.C., a scientist" --- >Modifier problem
C changes the meaning
A is the winner
