Let the orignal price be 100.
After first reduction new price = 80
After reducing the new price further by 40 the price = 48
The final price = (48/100)*100 % of orignal price
So IMO Ans is C

The final price would be

(100*80% (20% being primary discount so 80% is the price after the first discount)) * 60%( 40% being the secondary discount) = 48%

Original price = x.

after 20% reduction = x*80/100 = 4x/5.

After 40% reduction = 4x/5 * 60/100 = 12x/25

Required % : 12x/25 * 1/x *100 = 48%.

C is the correct answer.
