A sum of $38,500 was divided among Joe, Paul and Glen. Who received the minimum amount?
1. Joe received 2/9 of what Paul and Glen together received
So \(J=\frac{2}{9}(P+G)\).........\(J+\frac{2}{9}J=\frac{2}{9}(P+G)+\frac{2}{9}J\)......
\(\frac{11J}{9}=\frac{2}{9}(P+G+J)\).........J=2/11(total)=38500*2/11=7000.
We cannot say anything about other two.
Insuff
2. Paul received 3/11 of what Joe and Glen together received
Another way to tackle it is..
P:(J+G)=3:11........so P=3x and J+G=11x
Total = 38500=3x+11x=14x.......x=2750, so 3x=3*2750=8250
But we do not know about others..
Combined..
P=8250, J=7000, and G=38500-P-J
So least amount is with J
