Relative speed of the train with respect to the motorbike in order to overtake it is = 100 - 64 = 36 kmph = 36 *\(\frac{5}{18}\) m/s = 10 m/s
Distance covered will be equal to length of train as length of the motorcycle will be negligible compared to length of the platform
So distance = 10 * 40 = 400 metres
Correct Answer - A

P.S.- for converting speed from kmph to metre/second multiply by \(\frac{5}{18}\)
similarly for converting metre/second to kmph multiply by \(\frac{18}{5}\)

A train traveling at 100 kmph overtakes a motorbike traveling at 64 kmph in 40 seconds. What is the length of the train in meters?

A. 400 meters
B. 1111 meters
C. 1777 meters
D. 1822 meters
E. None of these

Train overtakes a bike means that we are talking about total length of the train. (train's head is close to bike when it started and its tail crosses the bike when it overtakes the bike)

Relative speed= 100-64= 36Km/h = 36000 m/h

time= 40 seconds

Distance= speed*time

36000* 40/3600= 400 meters.

A is the answer.
