Sajjad1994, request you to answer in details
Hi Arpitamitra,

Here is a detailed solution for this Table Analysis question.

Understanding the Given Conditions:
The table provides data on:
  • The number of each type of apartment (Studio, 1 Bedroom, 2 Bedroom).
  • Whether the apartment type is furnished or unfurnished.
  • The monthly rent charged by the university for each apartment type in two separate years (Year 1 and Year 2)

Question Stem Analysis:
The task involves determining whether the furnished units of each type were priced at 10% or higher than their unfurnished counterparts in BOTH YEARS - Year 1 and Year 2.

Inferences:
  1. The percentage increase in the monthly rent of furnished units from their unfurnished counterparts is greater than or equal to 10%.
    1. That is, if  ≥ 10 for a year, then the answer will be YES for THAT YEAR.
    2. Otherwise, No.
2. If we get a ‘No’ for Year 1, then there is no need to check for Year 2, as the final selection for that apartment type will be NO only.

Processing the Conditions:
Let us analyze each apartment type one by one.
Studio:
For Year 1:
  • Percent Increase == < 10.
    1. Since the increase is less than 10%, the answer for this type is No.
Using our inference (2), without even checking for year 2 we can mark NO for Studio apartments.

1 Bedroom:
For Year 1:
  • Percent Increase == > 10
    • Since the increase is more than 10%, the answer for this year is Yes.
    • That means, we must check for year 2 as well.
For Year 2:
  • Percent Increase ==> 10
    • Since the increase is more than 10%, the answer for this year as well is Yes.
As both years show an increase exceeding 10%, so the selection for 1-bedroom apartments is YES.

2 Bedroom:
For Year 1:
  • Percent Increase == < 10.
    • Since the increase is less than 10%, the answer for this type is No.
Again using the inference (2), without even checking for year 2 we can mark NO for 2-bedroom apartments.

Conclusion:
Based on a thorough analysis of the rent increases for furnished versus unfurnished apartments, we determine the following:
  • Studio: No
  • 1 Bedroom: Yes
  • 2 Bedroom: No

TAKEAWAY:
Observe how making INFERENCES helped us here to save time by reducing the number of calculations.

Hope this helps!
Regards,
Aditi

Since the question asks that we should mark Yes only if "university charged greater than 10 percent more" in BOTH YEARS i.e. even if one year is <10% then my answer becomes a NO.
So, if one year comes as NO then I don't care about another year (it could be a YES or a NO) and I can simply mark my answer as NO for that option.

Don’t overcomplicate it. It’s just the price per apartment. “Monthly rent” can only mean what one unit costs.
