Taking LCM of 15 and 20 = 60 i.e 60 units of apples are there in each lots
So, the CP lot A = $4
CP of lot B =$3
Total CP = $7
SP of total lot = (60+60)*2/35 =$48/7
Hence, loss% = (48/7-7)/7= (100/49)% =2.04%

Can you please explain why we have taken total SP as 4a/35?
Hi Pranjall8

See total number of apple now is 2a
and selling price of apple is 17.5/dollar

so SP total = 2a/17.5 = 4a/35

hope it gets cleared now

Excuse me, but that doesn't sound like English language. The wording is awful! IMHO.

Hi trepsixore

The wording is fine & if you observe

It is provided that x apples are brought in batches of 15 for $1
Same number of x apples are brought in batches of 20 for $1

Cost Price = (x/15)*$1 + (x/20)*$1 = 7x/60

They (2x) are sold in batches of 35 for $2

Selling price = (2x/35)*$2 = 4x/35

SP - CP = (4x/35) - (7x/60) => -x/420

Loss Percent = (-x/420)/(7x/60) = 2.04%
