Ans: D= 5N/2
Let cars sold=x
Sedans sold= 1/3(x)
Other Cars= 2/3(x)
Station wagons sold= 1/5(2/3(x))=2x/15=>N
=> x= 15N/2
Sedans=1/3(15N/2)= 5N/2

Sedans sold = X/3
Station wagons sold = 1/5 of left (other cars) = $$1/5*2X/3 = 2X/15$$
2X/15 = N (Given)
X = 15N/2
X/3 = 5N/2

Let total number of cars be 15,(smart number assumed based of 1/3,1/5).
then the sedans will be 5 and station wagon will be 3. ,
if N is the number of station wagon then sedans=?

we can just put the value of N in the options to get correct value.

so we put n=3 and get C as the correct answer.

Option C.

Solution

Given:
• During a certain period, $$\frac{1}{3}$$ of the cars sold were sedans
• $$\frac{1}{5}$$ of the other cars sold were station wagons
• N station wagons were sold during that period

To find:
• The number of sedans sold in terms of N

Approach and Working:
• Let the total number of cars sold be X.
o Implies, $$\frac{X}{3}$$ cars sold were sedans, and
o Remaining $$\frac{2X}{3}$$ were other cars
• So, number of station wagons sold = $$\frac{1}{5} of \frac{2X}{3} = N$$
o Implies, $$\frac{2X}{15} = N$$
o $$X = \frac{15N}{2}$$
• Thus, $$\frac{X}{3} = \frac{5N}{2}$$

Therefore, the number of sedans sold during that period = $$\frac{5N}{2}$$

Hence, the correct answer is option D.
