Add links to experiences and achievements?

Question

Hi! I'm applying for USC and they have the typical experiences and achievements section...

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to add links with "proof" of the things I claim. For instance, if I got a diploma from my country's president and there's an online record of that, I can link it. If I say I've been part of a particular organization, I can put the website link. Is this a good practice or is it not necessary or even frown upon?

It would not be frowned upon, but it would not be necessary or even taken into consideration. You should actually assume the AdCom is not going to spend extra time researching your activities or achievements via the Internet or a third party source. Most of your application is rooted in the honor system. While you might have to prove certain components if you are accepted (e.g., employment via background check), the AdCom is not going to validate particular achievements you have listed on your resume.

I'd like to affirm the advice provided above. The application process is based largely on the honor system, so the links are not necessary.

However, I'd like to go a step further and say that links would be unwanted. 1) If the school wanted links and "proof," they would ask for them. Admissions officers are simply not looking for the extra work (they're buried in applications as it is). 2) The links could end up not functioning and looking messy (or even like a mistake) if the system doesn't know how to read or translate the hyperlink once you've submitted the app.

My recommendation would be to simply include the information in plain text as requested. I hope this helps!
