The resume template for Kellogg is available here: https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/car ... mplate.dot

river, Steel - Do we have to keep size 12 font? I would assume we can't change the font from Times, but hopefully we can take the size down to 10?

Ugh. Times New Roman. Why? Why do all resumes have to look like absolute crap? So irritating...

Anyhow, what's the standard listing for MMM? Do you list the Masters of Engineering Management separately? Just say MMM?

I wouldnt rush writing your resume right now. Beyond format its a different way of showing information. It is really helpful to look at resumes of other students. The biggest help I got in the resume writing was from 2nd years who had been very successful with getting interviews and from alums. The also have resume review nights where they bring in people from various industries and the school will review your resume for you. If you looked at my initial resume and what it ended up looking like its kind of shocking. It helps to tailor your resume to your audience, I had half a dozen resumes that highlighted different things and presented skills in slightly different ways. It might have been a little overboard but I did very well getting interviews so it was worth the effort and proved to be pretty successful.

Yes, you can use a smaller font. Mine was 10point font and I bet most peoples were. But I would not go smaller than that.

MMM would look like
Candidate for Master of Business Administration degree, June 2010
Candidate for Masters of Engineering Management degree, June 2010

You could also probably put MMM Program: intended majors XXX, YYY, ZZZ

So I'm not planning on waiving DECS. I was looking at this page (https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/stu_aff/policies/registration.htm) and it seems that in Q1 we can take:
DECS 433 Mathematical Methods for Management Decisions or
DECS 436 Accelerated Mathematical Methods

The course description of the second one indicates that it's more math-heavy.

Has anyone heard: is it a lot tougher than DECS433? Is it worth taking?

Thanks!

I am somewhat skeptical of the listings on that page since the majority of the courses for the 1Ys for this summer are different (only MGMT, DECS and OPNS are the same; even the required courses are different), but this could just be a 1Y anomaly.

They are redoing the DECS component of the curriculum...I dont know how far along they are but DECS 433 has a new name and description. DECS 436 was turbo DECS and as of now its not scheduled.

DECS is a necessary evil, its not an interesting or exciting class but it very useful for most people without strong statistics backgrounds.

Awesome! Thanks so much. I'll just wait until they give us the go-ahead to start listing preferences to see what the deal is with DECS :)

Looking at the waiver-test, I don't really know how to do the problems off the top of my head; however, I feel like I could relearn that stuff pretty quickly. So I'm going to try to waive DECS 433 using my engineering statistics. If that works out (and I enroll in DECS 434), are there statistics tutorials if I need a review this fall? I may just take 433, but it would be nice to get an extra elective.

So the CIM schedule is insane, but what about the other two weeks of Pre-Term? I can't find any information about the schedule then...

Typically class and some section time during the day.... I think something like 9-3 everyday the first week and the second week is just class (either 9-12 or 12-3).

If I remember correctly there's a section night out and a cross section night out. KWEST trip usually gets together a couple times. And various other nightly events. But most are "optional" i.e. if you have to spend some quality home time you can.

My wife will have to stay in CA for the time being. During the first two quarters what events would you recommend that my wife definitely attend. This way we can plan her visits to Evanston accordingly. Do you guys think the CIM ball is one of them? If so, any idea when it is supposed to be?

Based on my research on the core courses for MMM, it looks like I wont be able to waive anything (coming from an Engineering background) since the DECS equivalent for MMM is compulsory. What do you guys (MMM) plan on doing?

The five-year thing is tripping me up, but DECS is really the only thing I could have waived anyways. Guess I won't be waiving anything. The big question is Turbo Finance vs. Fin 1 and 2. Leaning towards former to save a class, but just talked to an MMM alum who regrets doing Turbo. We'll see...
