Dear all,
I am very glad to have found this amazing platform where people share their experience on the GMAT. I have been studying myself intensively for the past 2 months and I got my score from the high 400s on the diagnostic test to 680 yesterday on the real test.
I know that absolutely speaking this is a good score and I am very proud of having been able to get this score on my first attempt. However, for the schools I am targeting this is kind of a borderline score. My dream program/school is the Msc in Management at HEC Paris and I will need a 720 to maximize my chances of getting there. I still have 5 weeks to go before the final round of applications and I am determined to take my score to the 730-740 (letting a little margin for the 720 in case I don't feel very well the day of the exam).
The resources I have been working on so far are the following:
- GMAT Official Guide Lessons: 100%
- GMAT Official Guide Practice Questions: 95%
- GMAT Quantitative Review Practice Questions: 85%
- GMAT Verbal Review Practice Questions: 85%
- Manhattan Verbal Review: 100%
- Manhattan Sentence Correction: 100%
- Manhattan Reading Comprehension: 100%
- Manhattan Critical Thinking: 50%
- Manhattan Advanced Quant: 80%
- Magoosh Premium Videos: 75%
- Magoosh Practice Questions: 30%
My scores were:
- IR: 6
- Quant: 47
- Verbal: 36
- Total Score: 680
That being said, how from your experience do you think I can allocate my time best for these next 5 weeks? I can either continue working on the resources I have already started working on or try new resources, or both if the time frame is enough. Spending more money is not an issue as long as it allows me to reach my target score on time.
My main issues during the test were time management (I had 30 seconds to answer the last 2-4 last questions on both Quant and Verbal) and that I found most Quant questions to be harder than the hardest questions I had done on the Official Guides (I think it was the hardest it can get). In fact, I had to do some guessing for several questions in the quant part but ended up doing pretty well I guess.
Also, aside from that, to increase my score more efficiently, would it be better to focus on Quant or on Verbal? I'm having it easier to understand maths (Maths major in high school and maths minor in college), consequently my Quant score should be easier to increase than my Verbal's. However, I was wondering if a 36-to-38 increase on the verbal will yield more points towards the Total Score than a 47-to-49 on the Quant.
Thank you a lot for your time. I hope the best to everyone of us.
