All too often, we spend our days waiting for the ideal path to appear in front of us. We forget that paths are made by walking, not waiting. Dreaming is great. But thinking big thoughts alone will not build a business, pay your bills, or make you into the person you know in your heart you can be. In the words of Thomas Carlyle, “The end of man is action and not thought, though it be of the noblest.” The smallest of actions is always better than the boldest of intentions.
Which of the following, if true, most strengthens the author’s position about the superiority of action over intention?
A. Individuals who frequently take immediate steps toward their goals, even if small or unplanned, are more likely to experience momentum and measurable progress than those who spend more time refining their long-term vision.
B. Research shows that people who visualize their ideal future regularly are significantly more motivated to pursue their goals than those who focus only on short-term execution.
C. Surveys of successful professionals reveal that combining consistent action with periods of strategic planning is the most effective approach to long-term goal achievement.
D. A behavioral study found that those who delayed taking action until they had greater clarity were ultimately more effective in reaching their goals than those who acted without clear direction.
E. Participants in a goal-setting program who were encouraged to act on incomplete plans reported higher satisfaction than those instructed to wait until their plans were fully developed.
