Hi Friends,
I am a Network Telecom Engineer with work experience of 6 years, I am getting 120K currently. However I feel that my carrier is stagnating and I would like to change my role (and may be my industry). I am looking at Product Manager or similar strategic role after my MBA. Looking at the Average salary post MBA, I am hesitant to invest 80K to 150K to get an MBA. I am not sure if my company would sponsor me.
so I have below questions:
1. Should I go for an MBA?
2. Working as an non-strategic role, should I opt for Part time MBA(as I feel that Part Time MBA is for working executives) or full time? Which one gives me best ROI?
Have any of you been to my shoe in the past, kindly share your perspective.
Regards,
Ronak
Hello, Ronak. If money is your primary consideration, then maybe the MBA is not the best bet. You already earn what is considered a competitive salary, even among recent graduates of top-tier business schools. There is also no guarantee that you will earn more than you would if you stuck with your current line of work. However, having a
stagnating career is no way to go through life, so you will either need to find a way to become more engaged with your current work or you will need to change things up, whether that change involves the pursuit of an MBA or not. Who cares about 80-150K if your current earning power is already so high? (I can appreciate that your cost of living might also be high.) You might get a scholarship to cover part of the cost, or maybe even all of it. You will not know until you start submitting applications. The real question is whether you are willing to put everything on the line to pursue a dream—half measures are much more likely to fail—and whether that dream is more than a passing fancy. You can crunch numbers all you want, and I myself enjoy doing just that, but ultimately, you will have to delve into your personal motivations and aspirations. No one can tell you what the right choice is for
you.
Good luck with your pursuits, wherever they might lead you.
