I got this question from self-made book usen in a Gmat course.
Hi,
In pure grammatical language,
'although' is used in a complex sentence(a sentence consisting of a dependent and an independent clause) and
'and' is used in compound sentence(two independent clauses)
Although is used to show a contrast and starts a dependent clause.
and to show contrast, there is a requirement of an independent clause on which 'although....' is dependent.. and only choice C provides that.
'and ' restricts the contrast and is structurally wrong.
