Although gale-force winds often pass through the Eiffel Tower, causing it to sway no more than four inches.

A causing it to sway no more
B and yet it sways no more
C they do not cause it to sway more
D and they do not cause it to sway more
E yet causing it to sway no more

Thank you in advance!

What's wrong with D?

I got this question from self-made book usen in a Gmat course.

what's wrong with D ? Well The original sentence has started with a subordinate conjunction so all we need a IC to contrast , we cannot have another conjunction in place of an IC. 'and they' is wrong here .
Option C is correct.

REMEMBER THAT WE NEED A MAIN CLAUSE TO CREATE A SENTENCE.

A causing it to sway no more -------- Wrong because we need a main clause to create a sentence.

B and yet it sways no more --------- No parallelism. We don't have a clause before "and".

C they do not cause it to sway more -------- CORRECT.

D and they do not cause it to sway more ---------- No parallelism. We don't have a clause before "and".

E yet causing it to sway no more ---------- Wrong because we need a main clause to create a sentence.

Best,

Rod
