Lets Analyse, author is criticising that money was not well spent for a hiring of efficiency consultant team and the reasoning he puts for his claim is that the current quarter profit is lowest in last 20 years of companies operation.

As per the question stem we have to weaken the conclusion.

So the first question comes in mind is there any other reason for the declined profit? Or is there a duration to notice the profit after the hiring? May be the company doesn't immediately starts showing the profit in just 3 months of period. Based on this thinking lets check the choices

A. It is not talking about CW. Competitior condition wont help us.

B. It is talking about effect of reduced profit and nothing about hiring team and profit linkage.

C and D are also not mentioning anything on the authors line of reasoning

E yes it is talking about on similar thoughts of ours that in this quarter the newly hired team is learning about process.

Although the human resources department at C.W. Industries spent more than $100,000.00 last quarter hiring a team of efficiency consultants, that was money clearly not well spent. The current quarter has been the company’s least profitable in its 20-year history.

Which of the following most undermines the above conclusion?

A. Changing market conditions negatively affected C.W. Industries’ competitors, a select minority of whom also hired efficiency consultants but saw a noticeably better return on investment.
B. The reduced profit was not significant enough to induce the company to lay off any of its current workers, although several senior managers opted for negotiated buyout packages.
C. The company’s revenue rose sharply in the previous quarter, but profits were lower than analysts had expected.
D. C.W. Industries’ stock price was only modestly impacted by the decrease in profit.
E. The drop in both output and profit was due largely to a learning curve mounted by the line workers as they became acclimated to more efficient production methods.

Official Explanation:
Question Explanation
Be careful of the twists in the question. You need to weaken the argument, which means—in this case—to defend C.W.’s hiring of efficiency consultants. Choice (A) is out of scope, while (B), (C), and (D) have no impact on the author’s conclusion. On the other hand, if (E) were true, then the payoff from hiring the consultants could be delayed but still potentially rewarding.
