I'd also like to know the answer to this question. I know my boss will write a good recommendation, but he's kind of self-centered and lazy and may get angry if ask him to write more than one. I only have 2 people that can write recommendations for me and it just seems crazy if I have to ask both of them to write so much, even if I'm only applying to 4-6 schools. Can my recommenders write one letter each and send that to all the schools? It won't be hard to convince them to do those short answer, checkbox type recommendation questions, but more than one or two letters each may be difficult.

no, they can't. the only way i know you can do something similar is by applying through the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management (one common app and common LORs for multiple schools). However, 1) only a specific subset of people are good candidates to apply through this program, and 2) only a small number of schools participate in this program. For every other school, you'll just have to go at it the long way.

IMO the recommendations are by far the hardest part of the application. It's a lot easier to spend your own time working on apps, but when you talk about spending your boss' time, it's very difficult.

Depending on which schools you apply to, you may find some similar recommendation forms, but be prepared to tailor every aspect of your application to each specific school.
