Hi SuyashJawahar.... I think the subject here is 'Among the various factors that foster innovative accomplishments' i.e the phrase acts as the subject of the verb 'is' and 'change for the better' is the object.

Since the subject phrase is Singular so the verb should also be singular and hence 'is' instead of 'are'
Also since 'change' is singular, so we use the singular verb 'signifies' instead of 'signify'

Hence C

Here we have subject phrase "Among the various factors that foster innovative accomplishments". So we should have singular verb.
We are left with C and D

Since change is singular we need signifies So C

Hi Devashish,

I actually disagree that the subject here is "Among the various factors that foster innovative accomplishments." I do not think this is a subject phrase for which the verb should be singular "is." So it is not an explanation for choosing C.
If we rearrange the correct sentence, it will be "change for the better that signifies disruption of the routine, deviation from the normal and redirection from the past is among the various factors that foster innovative accomplishment." Therefore, the singular form of "change" is indeed the reason why we use "is" and "signify" should be change to "signifies" in order to agree with "change."

Dear allenmaxin , here is my understanding -

" Among the various factors " ( suggests there are a number of factors ) " that foster innovative accomplishments " ( and among those numerous factors one such factor ) " is change for the better " that signifies that signify disruption of the routine, deviation from the normal and redirection from the past

Hence meaning wise (C) is good for me..

This is an example of subject-verb flip - the subject is "change for the better", which is singular. Take another example:

Among the all-time top bowlers of the world is Imran... Here "Imran" is the subject.

Does that modifies change or Change for the better?

I didn't quite get you. If you are meaning whether 'is' modifying change or change for better, then I would say that 'is' is a verb and not a modifier. In any case, it does not matter since change and change for better do not differ much. Change is a singular noun and change for better is a singular noun phrase. The verb 'is' not going to be anyway impacted by the change in terminology

GMATNinja, Since your explanations are very detailed and you explain in a way that is easy to understand and hence remember, could you please let me know the explanation of this one.
I also generally get the subject-verb flip sentences wrong, is there any method you suggest that could help me identify this better?
