An elementary school class tried feeding apples, broccoli, cucumber, hay, and lettuce to a guinea pig and a rabbit. When given any two of these foods, each animal clearly and consistently preferred one over the other:
- The guinea pig preferred apples to broccoli, but the rabbit showed the opposite preference.
- The rabbit preferred cucumbers to hay, but the guinea pig showed the opposite preference.
- The guinea pig preferred cucumbers to the rabbit's favourite of the five foods
- The rabbit preferred lettuce to the guinea pig's favourite of the five foods
Base on the information, select for Guinea pig's favourite a pair of foods such that either might have been the guinea pig's favourite and select Rabbit's favourite a pair of foods such that either might have been the rabbit's favourite. Make once two selections, one in each column.

This is a typical conditions based Verbal TPA question. It is a difficult question and some may consider it a time hog question as well, spending well over 3.5’. But if approached in a methodical manner by carefully organizing the information as you read the dataset and by drawing inferences without panicking, this question can be solved in well under 1.5’.

- We need to find what could have been the favourite of each animal. I see that the choices are X or Y (so, we may not be able to arrive at a unique, singular answer. We may have to stop when we are able to fix 2 candidates). Good to note. The question stem also tells us this much ("pair of foods").
- There are 5 food items. Are there ones I can eliminate easily (that CANNOT be favourites)?
R (Rabbit) -> Similarly, we can eliminate A and H. By the same logic.
We still need to eliminate one more food to arrive at the answer. Ok - what other info is there?
Rabbit ->
L > GP's favourite. From this, can we not infer that GP's favourite cannot be L? We can. If GP's favourite is L, then L>GP's favourite is nonsensical. Not possible.
So,
GP -> We can eliminate L. Only A and H remain.
Similarly,
GP ->
C > R's favourite. From this, we can infer that R's favourite cannot be C. Same logic.
So,
R -> We can eliminate C. Only B and L remain.
Answer:
GP: A and H
R: B and L
