Sharing a recent student story because the sectional shifts here are interesting and might be useful for people in similar spots.
Background Anushka is a full-time Boeing engineer in Bangalore.
She started 1-1 personal tutoring with us from August 2, took the official on October 14. That is 73 days and she was working full-time through it.
Mock progression
What actually changed
Quant. She stopped solving Quant like a math test. Engineers especially tend to default to full algebraic solving — she shifted to elimination, plugging in values, picking smart numbers. The Quant section rewards reasoning shortcuts more than calculation speed, and that mindset shift is what moved the 11 percentile points. Practice volume didn't change much.
Verbal. The biggest unlock. She stopped reading passages and questions for "comprehension" and started reading them as arguments — claim, support, gap. Every wrong answer got logged with what she misread, not just which option she picked. She didn't accept any explanation that was 80% convincing. The 47 → 83 percentile move came from this, not from doing more questions.
Data Insights. She built a separate strategy for each of the five DI formats , Graphs, Tables, DS, Two-Part, MSR. One generic DI approach doesn't work; each format rewards different reading. Her improved Verbal reading carried directly into MSR and Two-Part especially.
Consistency. Worth flagging because it's underrated. She rescheduled when work blocked a session, never cancelled. Voice notes mid-day with stuck questions. Showed up the next session regardless of how the previous week had gone. 73 days of that is what compounded.
On the admit She got into MIT LGO with a $100K fellowship in February. Worth noting for anyone targeting LGO specifically ; it's a smaller, more selective program than Sloan itself, and the profile fit (operations, manufacturing, aerospace) carried more weight than the score. Her essay angle was unusual for an aerospace candidate — she wrote about deliverability and manufacturing backlogs rather than the standard quality/safety angle. Worth thinking about if you're in a similar profile bucket.

- Verbal: 79 (47th %ile) → 83 (83rd %ile)
