Had my interview today with an alum. Blind interview. No trick questions, the basic:
1. Walk my through your resume.
2. Why MBA?
3. Why now?
4. What can you contribute to McCombs?
5. What other schools are you applying to and where is McCombs ranked?
6. Any questions for me?
The alum was very friendly and it was a very pleasant experience.
danerd,
how did you choose your interviewer? did you choose based on industry?
Good question! I was gonna post this earlier. So, the interesting about McCombs is that you can choose your own interviewer. Initially, I wanted to choose someone similar to my background (industry, nationality). HOWEVER, probably due to a string of bad lack, I had to ask 7 alums until I got one who was available to interview me. At that point, I didn't care about background anymore. I just wanted an interview. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK WITH YOUR INTERVIEWER BEFORE HITTING THE REQUEST BUTTON. If the interviewer is unavailable and rejects your request, it'll take 2-3 business days to be able to send another one out.
Anyways, I was lucky that my interviewer had a VC background since I was focused on entrepreneurship. For that reason, we were able to have a very good quality conversation digging deep into topics we were both very passionate about (business plan competitions, startups, etc.)
Key takeaways:
1) Try your best to get an alum who you can correlate to. I'm not ashamed to admit that I did the "LinkedIn, Facebook, asking friends" background check before I picked each interviewer candidate.

2) If you have troubles getting someone to interview you (another guy had to go through 6 alums), don't hesitate to contact the admissions team. They are very helpful and supportive in helping me finally secure my interviewer.
Good luck!!!
