Had my interview today with an alum. Blind interview. No trick questions, the basic:

1. Walk my through your resume.
2. Why MBA?
3. Why now?
4. What can you contribute to McCombs?
5. What other schools are you applying to and where is McCombs ranked?
6. Any questions for me?

The alum was very friendly and it was a very pleasant experience.

danerd,
how did you choose your interviewer? did you choose based on industry?

Good question! I was gonna post this earlier. So, the interesting about McCombs is that you can choose your own interviewer. Initially, I wanted to choose someone similar to my background (industry, nationality). HOWEVER, probably due to a string of bad lack, I had to ask 7 alums until I got one who was available to interview me. At that point, I didn't care about background anymore. I just wanted an interview. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK WITH YOUR INTERVIEWER BEFORE HITTING THE REQUEST BUTTON. If the interviewer is unavailable and rejects your request, it'll take 2-3 business days to be able to send another one out.

Anyways, I was lucky that my interviewer had a VC background since I was focused on entrepreneurship. For that reason, we were able to have a very good quality conversation digging deep into topics we were both very passionate about (business plan competitions, startups, etc.)

Key takeaways:
1) Try your best to get an alum who you can correlate to. I'm not ashamed to admit that I did the "LinkedIn, Facebook, asking friends" background check before I picked each interviewer candidate. :)
2) If you have troubles getting someone to interview you (another guy had to go through 6 alums), don't hesitate to contact the admissions team. They are very helpful and supportive in helping me finally secure my interviewer.

Good luck!!!

that's exactly what I did, I LinkedIn each interviewer to see if anyone is in my target industry.. Im totally for LinkedIn IPOing by the way..

I didn't quite think about struggling to schedule the interview itself..
well I just sent an e-mail to one of the alums, so we shall see.

thanks man!

So here is my question: I applied Nov 1, interviewed Dec 13. My status said "We've received all the items needed to review your application for admission." till almost a week back. Only recently has it changed to "We have received all credentials required to process your application. Your file has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review." Could be they are slow in updating the website, but is anyone else also still waiting? I am beginning to lose hope now.

There are plenty of people that have been waiting at least as long as you. I'm in a similar position, only I haven't been checking the GIAC status, just the McCombs status check.

Thanks for the reply, makes it a tad bit easier.

Guess there are no admits/dings this week.

Actually, they usually seem to make the admit calls very late in the afternoon. There's still time for a fairly large batch to go out.

It's kind of strange that there's only been one or two reported dings so far, though.

My phone hasn't left my sight all day. I would even answer it in the bathroom

The admission process for McCombs continues to baffle me. I had sent my transcripts (UG and Grad) in the same fedex envelope and the app status shows only grad transcripts received. Did anybody else face a similar problem?

Today morning, I received mail from UT giving me a new UT ID.
When I logged in, it shows that my GMAT score has not been received, but they have received my TOEFL score.
I have sent both the scores on the same day. And on mba.com, it shows that they have submitted my score.
I am planning to write to the ad com.
Is any one facing a similar situation?

Yup, same here. A few days later UG showed up as received. No worries. My guess is that they spend more time verifying UG transcripts. Who knows?

The UT system generated a seperate ut eid when i submitted my app. In the email for the new ut eid there is a link for self service. You can combine eid's: past users have suggested that you maintain the original one. In any case, call the admissions office: Carolyn Davis, can do it for you. Make sure that u dont have multiple Eid's as that will slow down the review process.

Guess there are no admits/dings this week.

I was admitted this week (Monday) but seem to be the only one on this forum who heard anything from adcom this week... weird. I thought the admits usually came in batches and there are several people who are on similar timelines to mine...

I attended an information session for the full-time program yesterday (looking to apply for Fall 2012), and one of the student presenters told us that McCombs is considering moving away from the rolling admissions format. I thought it might be an interesting tidbit for those of you that are frustrated with the random nature of McCombs' system.

Thanks!

I applied Round 1.

More specifically, I applied 10/22, paid my fee 10/25 and interviewed on 12/2. I received my decision this past Monday (1/24) almost 12 weeks after I paid my fee.

Adcom told me when I called last week that decisions are generally released 10-12 weeks after your application is completely submitted (i.e. all scores, transcripts, recommendations, and the app itself are all in and fee is paid).

Folks,

I wanted to update earlier, but was caught up with work and couldn't frequent GC forum.
I am a Round 2 applicant and I am scheduled for an on-campus interview in a couple of weeks.
