Hi Folks,

I took a shot to get feedback at MiF/LBS by sending my CV to Admissions office. Did any one had a similar experience, would be happy to know about it. My profile:
Work-ex: 9+ years (5 being international, US and HK)
Industry: IT(Business analyst)-working very closely with traders, structurers, risk mgr in structured products. Strong knowledge on pricing/valuation, trading, wealth mgt.
Academics: MBA and MS in Fin (from India), currently Level 3 CFA, just wrote in june.

Got the following response from Peter:

"Hi,
This is always very hard to judge for people from a predominantly IT background.

On the basis of your CV I assess that you meet our minimum entry requirements, however I believe our Admissions Committee may have some concerns about whether you possess the range and depth of finance experience required to fully benefit from, and contribute to, the programme. Clearly, much will depend on how you present your case in your personal statement (essay question).

We have certainly admitted people with backgrounds similar to yours – the key test for us is precisely how much finance exposure you have had and what you will contribute to classroom discussion if accepted. The course is also a better fit for people who wish to use the programme to advance their career in IT by expanding their finance knowledge than for people who are trying to effect a significant career change from IT into investment banking (for example).

If you believe that you have the necessary experience, you are welcome to submit an application, making your case in the personal statement why you think this is the appropriate programme for you and why 2009 entry is the right time to apply.

If you have any questions at any stage, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Can some one shed some light on a possibility of career move post MiF?

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone could analyze what types of MSF schools I could get into?

Profile:

GPA - 3.52 (graduated cum laude) B.S. Biomedical Engineering - Drexel University.
GMAT - should be around 700-750
Work Experience - 1.5 years intern work with reputable biomedical engineering companies.

I am looking to get a Master's in Finance for a career change. MIT is my first choice (am I dreaming?). JHU would be my 2nd.

Also, does anyone know anything about how reputable Villanova's program is?

Please don't write the same post again and again. If people have anything to say around here, believe me -- they will. I'd like to help you out but I don't know that much about MSF programs. Based on the Global Derivatives rankings, which are from 2003 and seem somewhat fishy, MIT's program is (predictably) good but not the best at 10th, and JHU is 20th. Villanova's not there.

That said, I'd be rather surprised if JHU really had the 20th best MSF program -- their b-school doesn't have a very good reputation at all. As for Villanova, I've heard of their business undergrad program a couple of times, but have never heard them mentioned in any sort of way for any of their graduate programs. On their website, they mention the average GMAT score for the MSF is 620, which leads me to believe that you'd probably be shooting way too low with your own GMAT score if your goal is to go with the best possible program.

(I wanted to make sure you received an answer as these are legitimate questions; this really probably isn't worth much more than $.02)

Yeah it happens, person gets confused while selection of school or university. Around a year back, I also browsed a lot for some degree through online mode. I discovered a good platform to pursue my online degree. Just have a look
