It might be smart to include a backup school as well. If you had nine dings this year, I would question the wisdom of applying to only three ultra-elites next year. I don't think scaling your applications down from 9 to 3 will make them more impressive by a factor of 3.

There are some schools (such as Yale) that have less time-intensive applications that would be easy to tack on. Maybe pick a couple schools such as this where you can just reuse essays, just to protect yourself from the volatility in the process.

I am happy with My Job and can do well within my company without MBA as well .
I belive only ultra elites and IIMs will satisfy my ambition.

If I dont get next year I am still fine :)

My ding analysis

I took my GMAT late and becuase of work pressure in 3 weekends I wrote essays for 8 colleges which was a big costly mistake and that explains the dings

I improvised greatly on my essays for kellogg but there were a lot of disasters in apps like TOEFL score reached 1 week before the decision deadline when most of the admits were already sent. I feel that Kellogg may not have even seen my app properly

So I think if I reapply next year in R1 I Stand a chance else as mentioned I am already fine with my job

Venky,

I see, well in that case then I think your plan sounds pretty good. I didn't realize you were so rushed with your applications this year, so maybe in fact your apps next year will be better by a factor of 3! Best of luck!
