Appealing Cancelled Online GMAT

I haven't gotten a response yet either! I sent an email late last week. I'm a little nervous since the 7 day deadline to appeal before the score cancellation is final is tomorrow. Will keep everyone posted if I hear anything.

I got a response a few minutes ago that they have received my appeal and will respond with a final decision in 2 weeks. So I guess we'll see what happens then

Hey pal. I'm in the same boat. I got an email that my score was cancelled because I was wearing rubber earplugs. I'd asked the proctor if I could and he said yes so I did. I would've never done it otherwise. I took the test on the first of August and they emailed me yesterday. I appealed right away but I have no idea if they'll respond before my deadline.

Same thing happened to me. I took the exam on July 3 and got an email from GMAC on Aug 19th. They say it's due to unfair test environment...
I didn't see the email until today so i missed the appeal period... but i will try to call them soon.

Wow. This is a crazy topic. Sorry I have missed it. I have not seen such a mass cancellation before. Ever.

How soon after the test did everyone get this email? It sounds like weeks may have passed?

It’s crazy if you took the test on July 3 and it’s been six weeks. Very odd. Very frustrating.

Does GMAC want to kill GMAT? I mean it’s already a pretty terrible test with all the technical difficulties and only one retake. And now this? 😬

My case was similar, where I took the test July 1 and got the “security violation” email Aug 18. I even called the test vendor upon receiving the email to find out what the alleged violation was, and the customer service rep could not find a violation in my exam video. Very frustrating

If they don't specify the exact reason for cancellation, how does someone make their case for their innocence ?

"Unfair testing environment" can mean 100 of things. Shouldn't the burden of proof be on test taker? It just sounds completely absurd.

I feel for all of you going through this, assuming no malice on your side.

Their customer service isn't that great either. It takes ages to get someone on the phone. I've been pushed from Examity to Pearson to GMAC for two weeks now. It is insane that I took the exam a full 37 days before my application deadline and I'm still not certain to have my score in time. It is really disheartening the way they behave.

They had the video for a month now and they still can't see that I was allowed by the proctor to use those rubber ear plugs.

I just called GMAC customer service. They said there is no way to have an answer from them about my inquiry. I would have to contact test security team. However, test security team can only be reached by email....we just have to wait. Not sure if the agent is telling the truth..

Yeah I called them up today but the only thing I got was "You'll have to reach out to the test security team". It's really a nightmare getting through to these guys. My application is due on Monday. I have no idea what to do.

NUTS! I am sorry. I can suggest a solution.

Here’s the thing. If you know your score, you can put it into the application. You technically do not have to send your score by the deadline Or you may already have shared it or sent it into the program. All you need to do is have the score before your application deadline and some people have taken the test the day before…

Some programs only verify the scores after they admit you or before they admit to you in December. The reason is that most people don’t put in fake scores and while the verification piece is important, they don’t need to verify everybody only to reject most people for other reasons.

So you may have more time if your score stays…

It does get a lot trickier if your score gets canceled. In that case you would have to retake it and have a date of the test after the application deadline but I feel the school may be receptive to that situation. They’ve been pretty understanding of situations outside of applicant control. It’s a different story when you’re late or disorganized or something else.

I can see for example if you do here in two or three weeks that your score is kaput. That will suck but you can hopefully quickly retake the test and maybe even get a better score and email the school an explanation at that time providing your old score and your new score and if the new score is higher, I would tell them to use your old, lower score to be fair.

Another option is to take the test as soon as possible. Not ideal but it will show you being proactive and planning for a Plan B.

A third option would be to find a bunch of people applying to the same school in the same situation and all of you sending joint emails.

Nope, I haven't shared them. I never got the chance. I can't take a test ASAP because its already been 5 weeks since I hit the books, and motivation is down the toilet right now is an understatement. I wish I could but I know from my mental state that I wouldn't be able to do my best. My 730 became a 750 and although its not that much of an increase I wanted to show the AdCom that I did everything possible to improve my application. Problem is complicated by the fact that this is a reapplication and I want to show progress in every way possible. Add to that the fact that I have only one target school (personal reasons).

I have no choice but some that some kid somewhere in the world who watches videos for a living pays enough attention that he/she notices that I had my proctor's express approval.

Sorry to hear that pal. It's been nearly two weeks and I've heard nothing from them. Doesn't exactly fill me with hope. My deadline was a couple of days ago. I think my school will still consider it if I get my score in a week or so. But, I have no idea.

Hey everyone, I haven't heard anything yet either. Their email from a couple weeks ago said that they'd follow up with their decision on the 9th, so I've been anxiously awaiting their response all day.

Ugh. Sorry about that. I don’t think a break or leaving for a break should trigger any of this stupidity…. 😢

Spoke too soon! Just got an email that the score is officially cancelled, reason code T for a “testing issue”. They gave me a voucher to re-take in person, but I can’t register for another online exam for a full year. This is truly so messed up
