Let the total volume of water on Earth be 1000lt.

Freshwater = 2.5% of 1000lt = 25 lt.

Surface water = 70% of 25lt = 17.5lt.

Therefore, % of total volume of water represented by surface water = 1.75

Ground Water = 25lt - 17.5lt = 7.5lt

Therefore, % of total volume of water represented by ground water = 0.75

Let us simplify the question:

Either we can find what to do in the titles of the columns:
% of total volume of water represented by surface water [SW]
% of total volume of water represented by groundwater [GW]

So,
SW = \(\frac{25}{1000}\)*\(\frac{7}{10}\)*100 = \(\frac{175}{100}\)= 1.75
GW = \(\frac{25}{1000}\)*\(\frac{3}{10}\)*100 = \(\frac{75}{100}\)= 0.75
