My answer is (C). It took me 01:15.
With "between A and B", it is critical that "A" and "B" are parallel.
(A) In order to make some sense of this version, we have to interpret its use of "between A and B" as follows,
similarities BETWEEN the pottery AND shrines of ancient Mesopotamia and Neolithic cultures.
Other interpretations are worse. But the comparison between "the pottery" and "shrines of ancient Mesopotamia and Neolithic cultures" is not much better.
(B) This version is enlightening. Now, we know the logical / intended meaning of this sentence:
similarities BETWEEN the pottery and shrines of ancient Mesopotamia AND the pottery and shrines of Neolithic cultures.
It makes a lot of sense, but the repetition of " the pottery and shrines“ can be eliminated...
... as (C) does.
(D) It is illogical to compare
BETWEEN ancient Mesopotamia’s pottery and shrines AND Neolithic cultures
(E) See (A).
