A because there is a cause and effect here
I.e. As they do
First and third have as and the rest all are eliminated

First makes sense and meaningful.

As more and more people invest their money in savings certificates or money-market funds in order to earn higher interest, they are abandoning traditional low-interest investment havens such as passbook accounts and life insurance policies.

(A) As more and more people invest their money

(B) While people have more and more been investing their money

(C) As money is more and more invested by people

(D) More and more, when investors put their money

(E) While, more and more, investors have been putting their money

There's no error in the original sentence, but to eliminate the other options on solid grounds, let's take a look at each of the choices.
B -"more and more" inserted between two parts of the verb. It's incorrect to use present perfect continuous tense here as it is used to highlight that an action started in the past and lasts until now, but this sentence speaks about a certain process in progress and does not concentrate on the fact how long it has lasted.
C - The passive form makes the sentence unnecessarily long and awkward.
D - It is not clear what "more and more" refers to.
E - Incorrect verb form and "more and more" incorrectly separated with commas from the subject "investors".

Correct answer is A.

I read few explanations, but still cannot figure out how the verb tenses are logical? Isn't it unparallel? The sentence in non-underlined portion mentions ''they are abandoning'', so logically I should have '' as more and more people are investing'' (continuous tense). Isn't this correct?

MartyTargetTestPrep EducationAisle IanStewart Could you please explain why option C is less appropriate than option A?

I feel that the emphasis should be on the money rather than on the number of people because by investing more money in savings certificates or money-market funds they are now left with less money to invest in passbook accounts and life-insurance policies. Whereas option A states because there is an increase in the number of people investing their money in savings certificates or money-market funds, they are abandoning traditional investments. For me option C makes more sense in this context.

I feel that the emphasis should be on the money rather than on the number of people

But the second half of the sentence is specifically about people -- more people are investing in high-interest funds, so a lot of people are abandoning traditional investments. If the emphasis were on the money, rather than on the people, the sentence would look different, e.g. something like: "As more and more money is invested in high-interest funds, less money is being deposited in passbook accounts and other traditional investments" (and note that "more and more" needs to go with "money" to make this work). You'd need a pretty good reason to prefer the passive usage in C to the active usage in A, and there's no good reason for a passive construction here (though don't rule out passive constructions automatically -- there can be good reasons for them).
