is this a digital watch in which the AM and PM matters?
or is it a Wall Clock type of watch with a Minute Hand/Hour Hand ----- in which case, 7:20 PM will show the same Time as 7:20 AM?
Need some clarity.....especially when you have a Trap Answer that can go either way.
-E- if we care about PM/AM
-D- if we only care about the Absolute Time shown on something like a Wall Clock (i.e., the Minute Hand and Hour Hand placement
-E- if we care about PM/AM
The RATIO of the Correct Time - to - the WRONG Time shown on the Mechanized Watch
Correct Time Forward : Wrong Time Backwards = 1 : 2
in order for the Time shown to be correct, 24 hours in Total must pass between the Correct Time going forward and the Wrong time moving Backwards (think of it like a GAP Distance between 2 racers and they need to Meet ---- the Meet Point will be the Time when it is actually Correct on the broken watch)
Correct Time Forward ------> 1/3 of the 24 hour "GAP" is covered. This is +8 hours added to 3:20 PM = 11:20 PM
Wrong Time moving BACKWARD ----> 2/3 of the 24 hour "GAP is covered. Subtract -16 hours from 3:20 PM = 11:20 PM
-D- if we only care about the Wall Clock Time, make the "GAP" Distance = 12 hours
Correct Time Forward ------> 1/3 of 12 hours covered. + 4 hours added to 3:20 PM = 7:20 PM
Wrong time moving BACKWARD ------> 2/3 of 12 hours covered. - 8 hours Subtracted from 3:20 PM = 7:20 AM
a Wall Clock with Minute/Hour Hands will show the same Time when the correct Time is 7:20 PM
I agree with
MathRevolution above. I believe the answer should be -E-, but I guess the mention of a "mechanized" watch means we are to Infer that it is NOT a Digital watch.
