At a certain sales agency, each salesperson receives a monthly base salary of $2000, plus commission equal to 10% of her sales over $2500 for that month. How much did Allison earn in June?

Suppose, sales in June = x dollars
(1) The amount earned in June was equal to 20% of her total sales for June:
2000 + (x - 2500)*0.1 = 0.2(x)
=>2000 -250 +0.1x = 0.2x
=>0.1x = 1750
=>x = 17500 Suff.
(2) If sold $17500 more than she did in June, her total earnings would have equaled 15% of her sales:
i.e. 2000 + (x + 17500 - 2500)*0.1 = 0.15(x + 17500)
=> 2000 + 0.1x + 1500 = 0.15x + 2625
=> 0.05x = 875
=> x = 17500 Suff.
