Experts !
I came across this sentence while reading NYtimes. Can some one demystify the structure of this sentence with respect to the modifiers?(something doesn't seem right with this sentence).
" Less than an hour away by snowmobile, Chinese laborers have updated the Great Wall Station, a linchpin in China’s plan to operate five bases on Antarctica, complete with an indoor badminton court, domes to protect satellite stations and sleeping quarters for 150 people." Cheers

Hi,
the sentence is correctly modifying the terms..
there are two modifiers..
1)
Less than an hour away by snowmobile.... this correctly modifies chinese labours...
the chinese labours are the ones who can reach the Great Wall station in less than an hour using the vehicle " snowmobile"..
Its speaking of th ephysical location of chinese labours..
2)a linchpin in China’s plan to operate five bases on Antarctica, complete with an indoor badminton court..
it correctly modifies the great wall station...
Less than an hour away by snowmobile, Chinese laborers have updated the Great Wall Station,
a linchpin in China’s plan to operate five bases on Antarctica, complete with an indoor badminton court, domes to protect satellite stations and sleeping quarters for 150 people.
