Hi guys.
I'm half way through an MBA in Europe and the chance to do an exchange in the US has come up.
But..I have a pot arrest from about 10 years ago, in the US when I was 21, and years ago in the US, I got denied an apartment for it, a few years after it happened.
In Europe, they just asked about recent things but I think in the US, they're a bit less forgiving.
So...do schools do the same extensive verification on exchange students as they do to incoming students?? I won't lie on the app but would prefer to not go through the hassle if I'm going to get lectured or denied. I have a good thing going where I'm at anyways.

I wish I knew the answer of your question. I never came across anyone who has this kind of experience. Can you ask your seniors/alumni what is the real procedure? What things are checked? You can get some hints from it.

I don’t think there is a background check for exchange students. I did an exchange outside of the US so not the same thing but it seems there is little motivation for the US programs in doing background checks on the exchange students. It could get embarrassing and usually the agreement is that whoever is sent/selected, gets to attend.... unfortunately I don’t know anyone doing an exchange in the US right now.
