You're going to advise a 3rd year undergrad to get a Tumi bag? Really, Julien?

Just go for something practical, kid. I was partial to messenger bags when I was in undergrad - not as dorky as a backpack, but just as functional. Amazon has some great deals for good products, like: https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Messenger- ... senger+bag.

I bought myself a Merrell Westervelt my senior year and liked it a lot. Don't have 5 posts yet so I can't post a link, so just google for an image of it.

It doesn't look like they make it anymore, but you could try to find something similar. It was slim (doesn't stick out far from your back) and very light, but had enough storage for a whole day at school w/ enough pockets to stay organized, and it didn't weigh you down, draining your energy unnecessarily. I had a bulky 15" Dell Latitude laptop, so I imagine your experience would be even better with a slim and light 13" MacBook pro or something. Oh, and the buckles to open/close were a lot more convenient than zippers.

It was made for bicycle commuters, that may help your search for a similar pack.

Mancro and MATEIN have simple and small charger backpacks for student. From safety design to exterior design, they meet my needs very well. Medium-sized backpacks are suitable for my ultra-thin laptop, I can put lunch bags in, and they are waterproof.
