Best Industry Pedigree?

Question

Which company do you think has the best "pedigree" for companies in Industry? Which names look the best when applying for an MBA?

Google? GE? Microsoft? Proctor & Gamble? Other?

Depends on how and where you rate pedigree.

A prime example is the mobile industry.
Ask anyone in the USA, and they will say Apple (iPhone) or RIM (Blackberry).
Ask any business person and they are more likely to say RIM
Ask any regular user in the rest of the World and they will say Nokia

I would say beyond the company its also the function. If you are in a rotational leadership program at GE thats going to be far more impressive than many other positions that people with undergrad degrees get into. Obviously places like McKinsey which has a very high bar for all positions to be hired into will look good.

I tend to think that job functions and title can have a much greater impact. For example, I think engineers can have very impressive jobs and titles working for nonbrand name companies or government (and contractors) doing something very outside the norm. Having a unique specialty that relates very well to goals can be an amazing selling point. This may be unique to engineers, because I tend to think that banking and consulting gigs brand matters more than function...

i think this follows the "most desired employers for mba grads" list pretty well. if you already work where mbas want to work, you are ahead of the game. also among traditional non-traditional applicants, i think going to west point and being an officer in the military is good pedigree.

I'm going to second what dabots said about the military. 
Some of the best managers/directors I've worked with have military backgrounds & went to m7 schools.

Anyone have any opinions regarding Nestlé, Novartis, Roche, Siemens, Adidas, Schlumberger, Shell, Bosch, Q-Cells, Syngenta, and E.ON?

I am looking into these companies in Europe, which is where I live and will attend b-school.

Also, I wonder how much value the European firms will place on my military experience and West Point "pedigree". I guess I will find out as I begin the recruitment and job app process this Fall. But, it would be great to hear from anyone who has worked in Europe in HR or happens to know about this from past experiences. I know that I must be able relate my past military experience into the new job and/or industry, and of course use the right "buzz words" that non-military professionals understand.

Google is probably the top pedigree you can get for the tech industry. Microsoft and some of the other giants like Cisco, Apple, etc... are just behind.

It depends on the applicant's country too. From India P&G is a very very solid brand. Some top commercial banks regularly send a few ( very few but regular) to top 3.

But from India, the best brand name is probably government. If someone is at a top All India Government Service then it is easy ( yes, 'easy') to get into H/W.

Easy might be harsh - you forget that those who make it into the IAS, IFS and IPS go through a more rigorous entrance process than even the IIT's - yes this is still true despite how much tougher IIT's have gotten over the last 2 decades.

So - these folks are generally super qualified academically and their work experience speaks for itself.

Any thoughts on doing B-school right out of Teach For America? What sort of pedigree does it have? The schools  seem  interested in TFA alumni.

I think a good way to assess pedigree in tech is to see how many people leave the company who end up creating succesful ventures or join start-ups which ultimately are succesful.

I am in tech. Well I am a ChemE, but all the tech listed are more EE, CompE, and CSci stuff. Are other engineering fields not considered tech?

I'd say the Chevron, Exxon-Mobils also count as "tech", but probably slightly less impacted than the EE/CS/MEs.
