I'm trying to decide whether to write an optional essay, and which topic would be best. I've come up with a few ideas:
1) Address transcripts: Undergrad, I did one semester abroad, and I could explain what those classes were. I also did an MS in Statistics and have two 'W's. The reason is that I took additional courses each semester and withdrew from the ones that I didn't find useful. I graduated on time (two years for a two year MS).
2) Talk about choice of recommenders: I've picked old managers rather than my current ones because the old ones worked with me for longer and I don't want to tell my new manager that I'm applying to business school yet.
3) Combination: Could I take the space to briefly touch on multiple issues? I don't think any of them are really full-essays, but I'd like to put some perspective on them.

#2 is your best bet. If you didn't use a current manager, write why in the optional essay. I don't see anything about #1 worth mentioning. A couple Ws (assuming decent GPA) does not require something to be written about.
