Hi everyone,
I have applied and got admitted to UCL Msc Management.
I'm waiting for Bocconi Msc Finance and Frankfurt Msc Finance, but considering that for Bocconi I have applied to the italian course(I'm italian actually), I should have good chances to get in.
The results will come during this month(21 May for Bocconi), while I'm still in the application process for Frankfurt.
Now, in the likely hypothesis that I got admitted to these three schools, I would like to hear some opinions about.
My final goal is investment banking outside Italy(London or Frankfurt would be perfect), a top tier would be ideally.
Evaluating the corses by myself, I'm considering some pro and cons. Correct me where I got wrong:
Msc Management UCL
Pro:
-London, in the heart of the financial district.
-Interesting network possibilities because it is not just a business school, it is the business school affiliated with one of the biggest and most important universities in the world. So, plenty of possibilities to meet people; this is an important thing because I have a family business and I would like to create connections also for it
-School with strong entrepreneurial output, good for my family business
-(I think) very good for investment banking? It is basically situated at 100m from JP Morgan, Citi and HSBC
-UCL is well known all over the world, so in the long run, it allows good alumni connections everywhere
-1 year program, less opportunity cost
-Interesting course. A blend of management with corporate finance pathway
-Interesting student associations
Cons:
-Costly as ****. Around 34k euros + a lot of living expenses in London, but I should be able to find a student job in the meanwhile
-The university itself is well known, but the business school is not completely established. It was founded just in 2007, but it should be solid considering that it is backed by UCL
-Not so good exchange programs, just a two-week summer school
-For what I heard, the UCL is 30min in metro distant from the business school. Considering that I will probably have to find a student job and I am already working as a freelance, it could be a problem to take part in the associations
-Brexit?
Msc Finance Bocconi
Pro:
-2 years program allows for internships and exchange semesters
-In Milan, so much cheaper in the short run, and the tuition is a little bit less
-Established business school
-Very good for investment banking. By the brochure, basically, only investment banks recruit from that course
-Good network possibilities because it is well established
-Interesting student associations
Cons:
-2 years program means 2 years of living expenses, in the long run, it costs more than UCL
-I do not want to stay in Italy anymore, and the hypothesis of being recruited in this job market is scary, to say the least, the situation here is ridiculous: even with a Bocconi degree, I would not be able to gain more than 1800 euros probably. And this means a terrible value for money
-Just a commercial school, so less interdisciplinary connections
-2 years program has a big opportunity cost, even with 2 internships
Msc Finance Frankfurt
Pro:
-2 years program allows for internship and exchange semester
-In Frankfurt, should be cheaper than London but still with good salaries and a strong position for finance
-Good for Investment Banking(?) They declare that there are a lot of investment banks that recruit from the course; basically, this should be the main placer for IB in Germany
-Interesting student association
-Probably I will take a scholarship
-3days model: you can work part-time in your field(finance) for 3 days, being paid, and so get experience and money
Cons:
-Less known school
-Less ranked than the other two
-Less interesting network possibilities
About me:
25, Italian student with a 1:1 degree from a little private university.
Always worked in my family business since the age of 10, did an internship in a local financial studio, currently working as a freelance assistant in a PE fund
Several extracurricular
GMAT 690
And a lot of determination to change my life.
Considering that I am already a little bit old for IB, what school should give me the best shot?
I personally have a strong preference for UCL, because I really like London and the and the English culture, and for what I see, it has really strong connection, but I do not know what to do
Thanks you
