Hi V6Highlander,

Studies:
1) How have you scored on each of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each)?
2) Did you take the FULL CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?

Goals:
3) What is your goal score?
4) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hey Rich thanks for replying. When I booked my test I had no idea I would be struggling this much with GMAT. I am an engineer and always considered myself to be fairly strong in math. So when I booked my test date I thought to myself that I just need to focus on Verbal. As you can see I was wrong and so far GMAT has kicked my ass. My weakness has been the Verbal section and Data Sufficiency.

Studies:
1) Quant for 3 of the tests were 41 and one test I scored a 43 (Sorry don't remember which). Verbal lowest was 18 and highest was 22 (Veritas).
2) Yes, I attempted every section in all the 4 tests.

Goals:
3) I would love to get a 700+ but with the progression I have seen, I don't believe that is a realistic score.
4) Schools I would like to see myself in are NYU Stern or Cornell. Schools that I am now aiming for are Rutgers and Simon Business school (Rochester).

My application so far is very weak, which includes a 2.8 GPA in undergrad from the top engineering school in Canada. Also I am from Canada, so I will be applying as an international student and any kind of financial help would be great. So I need a high enough score that would make my application stand out to schools like Rutgers. Also I want to stay in NYC or in close proximity because my fiance is currently working in the city.

I am leaning towards postponing the test cause this score will look horrible in my applications.
Schools are extremely unlikely to be interested in any score other than the highest. If you're really worried about this, remember that current GMAT cancellation policies take almost all the risk out of taking the GMAT and getting a low score (you might want to think about the money involved and the chance to take the test again quickly though).

Thanks for replying Ajitesh, I postponed my exam to January. I was discouraged after my last attempt and couldn't see myself going through with it at the moment. It cost me $50 to move the test date.

Hi V6Highlander,

Given your score goal and current practice CAT results, you're going to need to make some significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Rescheduling your Test to January was a smart move, but you need to define the specifics of your situation so that you can plan out your studies in the most efficient way possible.

1) What is your exact Test Date?
2) What are the exact application deadlines for the Schools that you plan to apply to?

Thanks for the motivational words Rich. I work 7-3 and I am home on most days at 4pm. Starting from today, I will spend 45 mins in the evening practicing quant questions, followed by 15 mins break and then 45 mins practicing verbal questions. I have also made an excel spreadsheet where I am jotting down my weakness in a subject or specific questions. I plan to work on my applications (which I haven't touched) from 6-8. On weekends I will spend 5-6 hours studying and focus on the questions that I had difficulty on, reviewing and understanding concepts and practicing more questions. This is what I found in another forum and thought was manageable in my case. Please feel free to comment on it or if you believe that this won't beneficial in my case.

1) My exam is scheduled for January 17th, 12 pm.
2) Rutgers (Round 2 and international students deadline) - January 20th, 2017
Simon, Rochester: Round 3 - Jan 5 and Round 4 - Mar 15
Carroll, BC: Round 2 - Jan 15 and Round 3 - Mar 15

Hi V6Highlander,

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, your CAT score results - and the range of scores for the Quant and Verbal sections - show that you have essentially performed the same each time (+/- a few points). To significantly improve on these scores, you cannot simply continue to practice in the same ways as before. You can certainly do a lot of focused study in the roughly 2 months that you have, but you 're going to have to learn/practice some new Tactics and that will likely require that you invest in some new practice materials.
