There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
I just finished an in-person interview for Georgetown McDonough's new MiM program. This was my first grad school interview, and I really felt like I could have answered the questions more substantively. The interviewer seemed to like me as a person but I'm not sure if he was too keen on my performance in undergrad. He told me at the beginning that this was a "blind-interview" and that he hadn't my test scores, recommendations or essays. When I explained my ugrad gpa and reasons for underperformance he stilled a bit nervous but he reminded me "well the rest of admissions committee may find something else about your application that they think compensates for that...I wouldn't know I'm only judging you based on your resume." I'm not really sure whether I still stand a chance or not. In my application, I wrote a story about how my mom was a refugee from a third world country and how she was accepted into Georgetown University as an undergrad but could not attend for financial reasons. I am a first generation American and I am also enlisted in the US Navy. My GRE scores are at the median for Georgetown McDonough.
