The essay for part time Booth is What is your big bold idea and how did you put it into action?

Does anyone have any essay examples of what they put? I want to start my own company, but haven't started it yet. However, I have networked around and created a business plan and done market research for my idea. Would that be a good thing to write about? It shows my entrepreneur side which is a plus for Booth.

Hi wolves5,

It’s easy to talk about a bold idea, but what’s difficult is to progress significantly toward fulfilling that idea. When setting up a business, writing the business plan, doing market research, and even getting the product ready (not always, but in most cases) is the easy part. What is difficult is to reach customers, make sales, hire good people, get the feedback loop working, and nail few marketing channels, among plethora of things. In my opinion, you’ve taken too few a steps toward your bold idea.

I was going to address the challenges in my essay as well. Would this be a good topic to write about since I don't actually have the business, I just have an idea to start one?

You do not need to have a business, but you need to have taken significant steps which would take you closer to the bold idea. An example could be getting a prototype (it depends on what industry you're in) out and getting valuable insights from customers (those will be some important lessons learnt), which could go into the final product. If the steps are more theoretical and research-based in nature, you may not have a strong story in hand.

Anil,

The essay prompt is: At Chicago Booth we believe inquiry leads to big, bold ideas. We create a collaborative environment in which you will share, challenge, and support each other's ideas. Tell us about a time you had a "big, bold idea." How did you come up with it, and how did you put it into action?

I'm going to include my challenges with the sales and customers, but I don't want to make the whole essay about what challenges I faced as that isn't what the essay question is asking. I was going to plan it out as:

Intro/ what my idea is
How I thought of it
How I planned it/ challenges faced.
Conclusion

Would that be better?
