Total number of players in each team is 9 because 8 are playing and 1 is resting at any point of time.

Since every player will take a break of 5 minutes, the total duration of the game will be 9*5=45minutes.

The question says "It is played with 8 members of each team". Why is the total number of players not 8+8+1+1 = 18? What am I missing?

The question is asking about the number of players per team.

I was slightly confused about the wording "every player on each team must spend exactly 5 minutes resting or otherwise not playing."

I thought this meant i would need to include an additional buffer to 45 mins for a rest/time-out. But this is not the case. The clue's for this are:
- "a game played by 2 teams for a fixed duration"
- the word 'rest' and 'otherwise not playing' is used interchangeably to describe that players have to sit out whether they are tired or not, as a requirement

Hope this helps for others who were confused at the language :)

How is the answer now 18/45 since there are 2 teams, and 8 members of EACH team on the floor at all times. Therefore, there should be 8x2 = 16 + 2 = 18 players in total.

The question is asking for the "number of players per team" not total players in the game - 8+1=9 players per team - making 9/45 the correct choice
