Re: Breaking Down the 2012 Wharton Essays [#permalink]
Anyone else think this batch of essays from Wharton is (brutally) short? We have 300 words to lay out objectives and then 2 rather directive (opportunity, interpersonal, innovation) 600 word essays to make the rest of the case. We're going to have to be super-concise and to the point!

1500 words is certainly not unheard of. Columbia provides that amount after only 1250 last year. The main thing is to be strategic about what you put where. That's what our blog post was all about - mapping instead of just writing. But make no mistake, Wharton is putting the screws to everyone this year. Good luck out there.

Thanks Amerasi, for the posts.

Wharton is one of my fond targets.
My essays are done, although am a little torn on the goals essay.

i have 40% background to goals, 20% why MBA, why now and finally 40% short- medium -long and industry impacting goals and structured in that order.
The word limit is about 7% higher.

What do you suggest about the focus of my essay and the structure. This is the essay am most worried about, since its the opener and my one chance to make them go "hmmm".
Thanks

Thanks Paul for your help. It's an excellent idea to organize the contents of the essays that way. I'll try to follow your advice.

Several people asked me to repost this breakdown of the Wharton essays, but instead, I am just going to bump the thread back up to the front page. Hopefully I'm not violating any written or unwritten rules of forum etiquette in doing so. But this blog post has seemed to help quite a few people, so damn the torpedoes on this one.
