Thank you! Once you go past the Top 20 list of schools, the differences are a lot smaller and there is really not that much difference in them from the 10,000 view. Of course each program is unique and regional and some are very strong in their niches. I am not familiar with the guidance you got from Stonecold about Cox, but that would have been my recommendation as it is meaningfully more affordable.

You may review this topic: https://gmatclub.com/forum/negotiating- ... 12949.html

Thanks and congratulations!

Thank you bb.

I'm trying to figure out the nuances of these schools.
Yes, with a 50K scholarship, SMU clearly has an upper hand as of now.

I will have to dig up stonecold 's past posts where he mentioned his apprehensions about the school. He also mentioned an international student dropped out of the program.

As per the US News rankings with Information System specialization filter, Smith Maryland lists in the top 10.

While some say that, at SMU one can get STEM without studying MS subjects, I'm quite excited to study MS subjects given my Tech background and PM aspirations.
BU has interesting MS classes (so does Smith) and Boston has decent Tech opportunities.

Also, thank you for posting the link for negotiation guidance. Exploring the posts :)

One word: Negotiate!

Negotiate with all of them. From Cox's and BU Questrom's standards- the scholarship amounts you mention are super low (especially for Questrom given that our average $$$ is about $25k)

Cox can easily make that 75k.

Note that beyond top 15 schools: Go with whoever gives you the most $$$.

Have you tried applying to any top 15 schools? You have solid experience, they might be impressed with your story and give you an admit.

I am on the east coast, so I know people from BU and they’re doing well... I have a friend from Cox and he’s in a VP role at a tech company
Having said that, you seem to have a convincing story, so you should consider a top 15 school

Stanford, Harvard, MIT, etc they value startup experience

That's good to hear JohnJohnJ.

My GMAT is an issue.
It's not 700+.
Hence, I feel I would not stand a chance.

Yeah, BU is a great option but tuition is higher comparatively with very little scholarship.
Any views regarding Maryland Smith?

If you have a good story, a low GMAT will be overlooked. I think you stand a good chance with the top business schools too, you must try it.
I were you, I would apply to all top 15 schools and then decide

JohnJohnJ, I think it is great you are so positive. I would like to understand what information in this topic or what the applicant has shared makes you feel their profile stands a good chance that warrants the advice to apply to ALL of the Top 15 schools?

I am also in a similar position.
BU Questrom VS Maryland Smith

Scholarship : BU 90K USD VS UMD 30K USD + GA worth 64k

Concern : Boston is very expensive. However Maryland is not so costly as Boston is. Since I am getting confirmed GA for 2 years in Maryland, I can meet my living expenses to some extent. However, I liked the curriculum of BU and its MBA+MSDT program seems more attractive to meet my goal of working as a technology Consultant / Product manager. I found most of the jobs in the vicinity of DC are for Citizens or GC holders.

Please advise in which college I had better chance of landing into a decent job and going to cost less. I am an Internatinal student who requires sponsorship in future.

P.S. I know none of them are top colleges and trying for another year is not an option.

Regards,
Arup Sarkar

I would not choose Maryland, it does not make sense. I will go with more money. Dallas is really good location considering opportunities and living conditions. SMU is STEM, so you can probably focus more on job hunt than tech classes and with program like Boston you have to spend a lot of time to get in PM role. It will not be easy in this job market.
