I am a bit stuck in the 3rd essay for Ross. I am able to come up with alternate career but am facing difficulties in connecting to MAP. Can some of you all please help in going about the essay.

Thanks for your help!!
Found the reply for it on thread Applicants - Ross, 2008 at BW:

I think its best to be skeptical till the admissions decision. Seeing so many Indians getting invites makes me think that its going to be one hell of task to get thru.

I second that to some extent. I think, at Ross, an interview invite is not a huge indicator of an admit. Especially in a year like this, when app volumes are astronomically high and the quality of apps better, schools can afford to interview a larger pool of "likely" candidates to admit from.

Also, not everyone will enter an interview at the same level. Ross probably has a likely short list of admits by now and the additional data point from the interview will shuffle that list only so much.

Going by historic numbers, 40%-50% seems to be the post-interview admit rate. Once again, based on the app volume, you have to feel happy about those odds.

Agree on all accounts- atleast I feel that my app was not toilet paper for the Michigan football team :)

Having said that- going by last years stats at admissions 411, which is skewed towards 700+ GMAT scores, you have about 60-70% chance after an interview invite. The OVERALL odds are ~50% as indicated by the adcomm last year in R1 (interviewed 550ish and admitted 289). This year is bound to be a little difficult as michiboy over at b-week indicated that apps were up 20%.

I think I am going in for a phone interview on the 19th...

Since there are 4 of us w/o interview invites, I decided to some mundane (or useless) research. Seems like all the Indians invited for an interview had either a 760 or 770. I don't know about the rest but my score is far below :(
My sample size is pretty small though so ymmv, fwiw etc.

p.s. I know I am wasting my time; I should be working on R2 essays :)

Yea, I got the amba admit. Got a ding from Kellogg too. But I don't want to give up on the 2-year programs as a career switcher who would need the internship.

Btw, if you visit BW, check the "Applicants - Ross, 2008" thread. More Indians with 760/770s got reported invites in the past few days including a few today. There could be a few common posters but overall I am yet to read about an invite for a lower score in R1. Coincidence or a trend towards highers scores on GMAT, I don't know.

Confirmation please :

Indian applicants (with language of instruction as English in undergrad) are not required to report TOEFL, right ?

Working on my short essay on a personal challenge now....let's see if I can get the adcom crying and grant me an admit without interview :-D

Yes. You are not required to take TOEFL. But, here's some food for thought.

Eventhough I was eligible for a waiver, I took TOEFL and reported the score because it freed up space on the optional essay which I used to highlight other facets of my candidacy. I followed the same approach for Cornell.

I dont recommend that you do this, but its not a bad approach especiallywhen one of the schools in your portfolio requires TOEFL inspite of your undergrad language of instruction.

For Wharton, I chose not to report the score. In this case, the optional essay is strictly an "extenuating cirsumstance" essay and could not use it for any other purpose anyway.

Hmm...I think we've seen the last wave of invites go out. Anyone with an invite know if any more interview slots are open?
Its interesting that, on ad411, 19 of 21 people in R1 w/o an invite are Indians!
