Thank you cozmo8, eminent, niraja,sapphireka. :-)
For your interview, be very confident in speaking about your goals and why you want the MBA from CBS. Comparing my two interviews with CBS, I think last year I fumbled a bit when my interviewer started questioning me about why not school XYZ instead?
This year I made my case for CBS by first talking in points about what I am looking for from an MBA and then connecting it to how CBS fulfills each of these points. Thus there was no room for any doubts.

Other than that, if you've gone through typical questions (which I'm sure you've by now) there is no reason to sweat. Good luck :)

I submitted on October 6th; however my application went “under review” on October 26th. I was reading through last year’s thread and CBS seemed to be a lot more responsive.
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting for an interview!

hey any advise on how long the optional essay should be at max? 500 words or less? I am planning to use it to showcase something positive in my application.

Be very cautious about using Optional essay.
Almost everyone has recommended that use it to give another perspective of something which on first glance looks like a -ve in your profile. A low GPA, a missed year things like that. But of course there is no rules around it, but just be careful.

correct, i didn't use optional essay at all.
in both essay 1 and 2 i weaved in leadership and accomplishment stories from professional work.
i used an extra curricular/community service story for team failure.
fwiw, i felt whatever my best stories were they should be featured in these essays somehow. and yes variety of context is good and recommended. if you want to chat about it in more detail, pm me.

I had a very strange interview today. At one point the interviewer asked "do you really need to do an MBA?". He also said that he loved going there but overall he was pretty negative about the school. What should I do? How do I get a better picture of the school? Because I'm over the other side of the world I only get a few data points and I really want to understand if I'm a good fit for Columbia or not.

sapphireka,

You should get in touch with students from the Hermes society. My student host was a member of the group - these folks really know a lot about the program. I'm sure it'll help. I think I saw someone from Australia in the list...
