question -

any instances where if ive applied in ED, adcom moves you to RD at their discretion for a valid reason? can a person submit an app both in ED and RD (this is probably a far-fetched question but i'm on pins and needles with the wait) ?

Only one application per year. And it sounds like they may waitlist EDs based on this: https://www.mba-rankings.com/columbia/

From my understanding, if you are waitlisted as ED, you are compared to the RD pool. Only difference is that your commitment is still binding. Because CBS is highly yield sensitive, I imagine being ED waitlist is still slightly better than being RD waitlist (if all else is equal), so it won't hurt you to have applied ED and then compared against RD.

I think if you're waitlisted ED and moved to RD, you are no longer Bound to ED rules. I can be wrong, but I think just being Waitlisted you're resolved from your responsibilies.

It appears that mid-term final exams have already passed (Oct 21-27). The 2nd half of the first term began on Nov 2nd/3rd and there will be Thanksgiving recess from Nov 25-29. Last day of classes for the term will be December 10th.

Columbia In the News:
Warren Buffett and Bill Gates to Hold Master Class in CNBC Special

As part of Columbia Business School's practice of bringing influential business leaders to campus to share their insights, we will host businessmen and philanthropists Warren Buffett MS '51 and Bill Gates this Thursday in a special CNBC town hall event. In the spirit of our community forums, the event promises to be a lively exchange with student questions on these icons' ventures, philosophies, and views on business.

Clearly their investments in and dedication to green technology, health, and education mark a new relationship between business and corporate responsibility. This is a remarkable opportunity for our students to hear their insights firsthand, and is just one of the many outstanding experiences offered to the Columbia Business School Community.

"WARREN BUFFETT AND BILL GATES: KEEPING AMERICA GREAT," will premiere on Thursday, November 12th at 9pm & 12am ET on CNBC. For more information on the broadcast, please click here.

Sincerely,

MBA Admissions

ED, dinged.

That's what I get for being 23.

Now contemplating other schools (NYU, Georgetown, Northwestern, Yale, UF, Maryland, et al), or waiting altogether...

When I read this I was like, "hey, I'm about 23!" and then I realised that was 2 years ago. But I feel more ready to go now - I guess it depends on the individual but 23 is pretty early for MBA. Work experience convinces the schools that you will have more to add to class discussions I guess.
