Does anyone know if there's any advantage to submitting your application before the review period begins? Basically, I'm asking if Columbia reviews the applications in the order that they are submitted even though it's rolling admissions. Or is it more like on a random basis?

They are pretty much reviewed in the order they come in, so submit as early as you can. However, do not sacrifice one ounce of quality just to submit even a month early. The timeliness of your app cannot make up for even small, lacking details. I am probably preaching to the choir, but just keep it in mind.

So the earliest possible is the day after the ED deadline, correct?

Thanks djhouse. I plan on submitting as soon as the application is available since I'm all done with the essays.
Unhedged, if you're asking when is the earliest to submit, it'll be as soon as the application is available which is probably towards the end of July.

I would take a little more time to complete the actual application after it is available. There are a lot of short answer areas, such as EC's and filling out your GPA, that you want to ensure also look presentable. That may entail sitting down on Saturday, knocking out the entire app, and then revisiting it every few days for a week. You don't want to submit it in a rush, and then realize you forgot to put something down. But, when you're ready, you're ready, so don't hold off on account on me. Best of luck!

of course : ). I have actually already filled out the January application for practice sake. I definitely plan on checking and rechecking before I submit. Maybe fill it out in its entirely then let it sit for a few days before I revisit. And getting a second pair of eyes to double check me as well.

It has begun! Columbia's fall application is out! Although it’s not officially announced on its MBA home page, the Earl Decision dropdown is available when you start an application.

This is the 3rd essay -

Essay 3 - Please provide an example of a team failure of which you've been a part. If given a second chance, what would you do differently? (Recommended 500 word limit)

Does it necessarily need to be a "TEAM" failure? Can I talk about a personal failure here?

It specifically says "team failure." So I would stick to answering the question.

I'm confused on what the RD deadline is? I don't want to be bound by ED, but Columbia is one of my top 3 choices. Would it make sense to apply RD but submit my app in Oct?

Count me in for J-term. Still working on my application, but I anticipate having it submitted in two weeks.

If your app is ready then your app is ready, you can send it in any time. They won't look at it until the RD review period begins, but yours will be one of the first to be read. If you submit in October, they might contact you to make sure that you submitted for RD and not ED.

Hi all,

I was an ED applicant last year. Got dinged after an interview.

Columbia remains my favorite and am considering it again. ONly this time as a J term applicant. My worry is on how the school will view the change in preference in such a short period of time.

Anyone with more info on J term size and how it is integrated with the 2 year program?

I got dinged last year in ED and I'm considering re-applying this year in RD so I'm also wondering how CBS will evaluate my change from ED to RD.

CBS has a rule around reapplicants...former applicants can use reapplicant process (i.e. 1 essay + 1 new recommendation) only if submitted within 1 year from the last. I submitted my app late Sept last year so...is my deadline for reapp late Sep this year?

There were comments on this board around chances in ED vs chances in RD. You can look at last year's numbers. I don't think ED was any easier.
